Its all about the bride right?…
WRONG! (LOL, joking! we secretly wish it was all about us!) so, technically it is all about the bride… but that doesn’t stop a girl searching, sourcing, meticulously planning her outfit for ‘the wedding of the year’ does it now!? And this is something we want to get right. So I’m going to help you 🙂
First of all, like all big events, you need to dress for your size and shape. So do you know what shape you are? Do you know what size you are? No really?! lol, lets not lie to ourselves girls, getting your correct size can be the secret to looking slimmer or the error in looking wayyyyy bigger than you are! So get real. And you’ll start living and feeling great! Here’s a little taster…
You’ve probably seen that image before. It’s a classic, simple representation of the different body shapes you can have. You might feel you don’t really fit into a category? Don’t worry… Once you’ve tried on a few outfits that suit a certain shape you’ll know what you are! But ill save these tips for a separate post 😉 What you need to do is really think about your size and shape and where you carry your weight (if you carry alot that is!?)
I’ve done a bit of leg work for you and found a site that will give you instant answers in the trauma of finding a dress to suit your shape! Here it is…
Once you’ve decided on a dress you need to think of accessories / shoes / hair and all the other challenging decisions that come with making an impression! There are countless websites and shops to choose from so basically I am going to compile a list of my top picks and hopefully you will find just what you’re looking for!…
For a huge range in designer, high-street and even vintage head over to asos.com and asos marketplace. This is always where I start my search because 9 x out of 10, I will find what I’m after. For something a little different check out revolveclothing.com. This site features an exquisite variety of dresses in abstract and interesting cuts and designs. (Beware of the price-tag!) Featuring mainly designer and you will pay for shipping on top, make sure you’ve saved up and do your research first! Among the multitude of online stores to browse are the high street favourites; topshop / river island / miss selfridge and urban outfitters. Don’t forget to have a rummage as you may overlook a great dress at a great price!
Here’s a few pictures of what’s available now and don’t worry whatever you see here 👇 can be found in my links at the bottom of the page 🙂
You have probably got a taste for the sort of style I like from these images. If straps and bare shoulders aren’t for you then don’t panic! Buy a cute cardigan, a shawl or a scarf that you can wrap around when you feel self-conscious. Your chosen style will also depend on the time of year of the wedding, but generally, people get married in spring and summer, so you can almost guarantee florals, a beautiful mix of colours and fresh new designs!
Now for shoes and accessories!
Just a helpful hint: if your going all out on a statement dress then your shoes should be a compliment… Not another feature. So keep to a simple yet elegant stiletto, a “barely there” sandal or a smart shoe boot (depending on what goes best of course!) If you prefer a bohemian look to your style or your attending a wedding on a beach you may want to try a Sandle or a wedge heel. Don’t just chuck on your old faithfulls because there “comfy”. Ask around and I’m sure someone will have a pair of cloggs you can borrow if you need to save the pennies!
Great shoe brands to step out in:
- Steve Madden
- Sol sana
- Kurt Geiger
- Jeffrey Campbell
- River island
…Now accessories I always like to keep understated… But again if you like a simple clean cut outfit then there’s no reason why you can’t go wild with accessories. This is where you can really express your own style, so don’t hold back. Search around for the perfect bag or jewellery that will compliment your dress and speak volumes about you and the impression you want to make.
